Competitive Grant Application Guidelines

The Community Foundation of Teton Valley provides financial support to projects addressing community issues and needs in the Teton Valley through an open application process. Funding decisions are made by the Foundation's Grants Committee. Funding for the Community Foundation’s competitive grants is provided through the Tin Cup Challenge and private donors.

Guidelines for 2012 Competitive Cycle

In an effort to conduct a more streamlined granting process an initial short form grant application will be accepted. Interested nonprofits will submit a narrative of up to 400 words that describes the project to be funded and explains how the project will serve the community. An interim review by the Foundation's grants committee will narrow down the applicant pool to a short-list who will be invited to submit a detailed grant application.

There is no limit on the amount of funds a nonprofit can request through the short form process. Applications will be evaluated relative to each other in the needs they address and the impact they will have on Teton Valley.

Who is Eligible to Apply?
Each proposal must be represented by one IRS approved charitable entity that will assume responsibility for the management of the grant. IRS approved organization types include 501 (c) 3 public charities, local schools, local government entities and religious organizations. Grant funds must benefit residents of the Teton Valley.

Organizations that have previously received a grant from our affiliate, the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole, and have overdue grant reports are not eligible for new grant funding. If you have questions about your organization’s reporting status, please contact our office at 208-354-0230.

What Types of Projects Qualify for Funding?
The Community Foundation supports a wide variety of proposals. Ideas for addressing issues in the arts, environment, social services, education, recreation, animal and civic arenas are all welcome. The Community Foundation supports programs, capital projects, equipment purchases and pilot projects. For the 2012 competitive grant cycle, support for operating expenses will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

What Types of Projects do NOT Qualify for Funding?
The Community Foundation does not provide support for the following: religious activities, debt retirement, political activities, tickets for benefits, telephone solicitations, or organizations/projects working primarily to influence legislation.

What does the Review Committee Look for in Applications?

  • A clear and compelling community need
  • An appropriate and well-developed program that will address the stated need
  • A reasonable, detailed project budget
